"RADIO DARC" - first broadcast on 22nd March on 6070 kHz at 1000 UTC

Despite these on the website of Channel 292 work at the transmitter, the first broadcast of the DARC radio program will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 11:00 CET clock (1000 UTC) on 6070 kHz at 49-m radio band instead.

"We were aware of the maintenance work at Channel 292 and we have therefore rented for the first broadcast on 22nd March 1000 UTC locally a transmitter in the ORS in Vienna (100 kW). The repeat broadcast on 23rd March will be back in production for Channel 292 can be radiated with the newly installed 10 kW transmitter (20 kW PEP) as the first show with new hardware "says Rainer, DF2NU.

RADIO DARC, a new, made by radio amateurs Amateur Radio DX weekly magazine, based on the legendary former stations like Radio Noordzee International, Radio Veronica and Radio Caroline. The contents revolve around current reports from the scene, market reports, technical tips, DX news, interviews and the like, accompanied by great music from the 70s and 80s.

The contracts for the delivery of programming content with the Intermedicom GmbH are signed and sealed. The complete donor-supported broadcasting, initially in two broadcast partners, once on the Austrian ORS GmbH Co KG and secondly on the above-mentioned Intermedicom GmbH, which operates a self-built 10 kW shortwave transmitter near Ingolstadt. The owner of this company is itself radio amateur (DB8QC), more info, see www.channel292.de

The widespread retreat of commercial and government broadcaster has this project possible, since the now orphaned KW frequencies are scarcely of interest - except for radio amateurs. Some now use the new possibilities to establish broadcast service providers.

We keep our fingers crossed and hope gl for the first transmission.

Digital Radio Mondiale test by RFmondial & Leibniz University using Ampegon transmitter

DRM Digital Radio Mondiale: International Acceptance through Field Test Platform in Hannover

Ampegon supports one of the worldwide leading DRM test locations with a solid state low power transmission system to enable verified measurements, tests and reports

Turgi, Switzerland, March 20, 2015. Ampegon has granted a solid state low power (500 W) transmission solution to RFmondial GmbH in Hannover, Germany. In cooperation with the Institute of Communication Technology (IKT) at the Leibniz Universität Hannover the transmitter enables technologists to continue expert measurements and demonstrations of the DRM standard on regular city environmental broadcasting conditions. A broadcast license for 26.045 MHz shortwave has been given to the Leibniz Universität Hannover.

The installation will bring DRM technology and research equipment to the campus laboratory allowing technical demonstrations for professional listeners and reception results. The use of the equipment in mobile configuration enables a testing environment for improved car radio receivers with live reception inside a city. The unlimited access and the flexible operation of the broadcast chain including all possible configurations and power levels will help to test and demonstrate DRM live broadcast and will show the technical strength of the technology. The equipment is fully remote accessible for unmanned operation.

New algorithms, coding and power improvements will be tested and verified. System linearization and coverage conditions for several operation modes are under examination. The measurements and reports are well received in international technical publications and conferences.

This DRM installation is a complete DRM service chain maintained and operated by RFmondial together with the Leibniz Universität Hannover and the support of Fraunhofer IIS. It co-exists next to a DRM transmission in the FM band at 95.2 MHz. In parallel to experiments under their own supervision, the service is offered to receiver, module or chip-set manufacturers to verify and improve their implementations under real environmental conditions.

Digital Radio Mondiale ™ (DRM) and Voice of Vietnam (VoV) Workshop

The Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium and the Vietnamese public broadcaster, Voice of Vietnam (VoV) will hold their first comprehensive digital radio workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam on March the 10th. Vietnam is a large coastal country, with a varied geography and many towns and villages; VoV is exploring ways of meeting the challenge of covering in a spectrum and energy-efficient way the entire country with quality broadcasting services that can be received by its entire population.

Mr Nguyen Dang Tien, President of VOV, says: "VoV is the largest public station in Vietnam covering the entire country with radio programmes in analogue mode. In our radio digitisation process we are looking at the most effective ways to cover both large cities but also regional towns and villages over large and geographically diverse territories. We wish to understand the full potential of DRM and the way it could ensure the full and cost-effective coverage of our large country."

Ruxandra Obreja, DRM Consortium Chairman, is delighted to have the Consortium support VoV in their endeavour: "We believe that the global, open DRM standard (in both AM and VHF modes) will be able to offer enhanced broadcast services and data, to both urban and remote areas. The comprehensive DRM workshop should ideally be followed by a trial which could be run together with the excellent Vietnamese specialists. This will give them the opportunity to experience the quality and benefits of DRM digital radio broadcasting, while the Consortium will learn more about an important Asian country."

The workshop will be supported by key international DRM Consortium members, Fraunhofer IIS, Ampegon and GatesAir.

German Radio Amateurs Breathe New Life Into 'Orphaned' Shortwave Channel

A few radio amateurs are frustrated broadcasters, and when German national broadcaster the Deutsche Welle closed down a 500 kW shortwave broadcast transmitter near Munich, an entity headed and operated by hams applied for and was granted the vacant channel of 6070 kHz in the 49 meter shortwave band. DARC Radio -- which has a business association with the Deutscher Amateur Radio Club (DARC http://www.darc.de/) but is privately owned -- now has a 10 kW broadcast station, branded "Channel 292 http://www.channel292.de," up and running, and a new Amateur Radio DX program will debut next month.

Digital Radio Mondiale™ (DRM) and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) to Trial DRM Digital Radio in Indonesia

The Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium and the Indonesian public broadcaster, Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), are pleased to announce a DRM30 digital radio trial and workshop in Jakarta, Indonesia in the week of 24th of March. Indonesia is mostly coastal lowlands, larger islands and mountainous areas creating a challenging broadcasting landscape; RRI is exploring ways of overcoming these challenges to provide quality broadcasting services that can be received countrywide, with the efficient use of energy.

Mr Sunarya Ruslan, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RRI Indonesia, says: "We are looking at the weaknesses that we experience currently in analogue radio with a desire to offer radio broadcast services that are economical, easy, and mobile, offering the same good quality to Indonesian citizens, whether they are in big or small cities, even in remote areas and whether they are farmers, fishermen, government officials or private citizens.  Mr Muhammad Rohanudin, Technology and New Media Director of RRI, adds: "RRI is currently reviewing the appropriate technologies to be used as a delivery medium. These technologies include DRM and we hope that the DRM trial in the Bogor area will provide us with options and a better understanding of digital radio broadcasting."

Ruxandra Obreja, DRM Consortium Chairman, is delighted to have the Consortium working so closely with RRI: "We believe that DRM will prove to be the full and cost-effective solution for Indonesia allowing it to provide quality broadcasting with extra services, to densely populated urban zones but also to remote areas. The DRM trial and workshop will be run together with Indonesian specialists and will give them the opportunity to experience the quality and advantages of DRM digital radio broadcasting while we will learn more about this important Asian market."

The DRM30 trial and workshop will be held from 24th - 27th March 2015 in Jakarta and Bogor. They will be supported by RRI and key Consortium members:Fraunhofer IIS, GatesAir, RFmondial and Transradio.  During the workshop attendees will be invited to observe the results of the DRM30 trial and to learn more about the full DRM standard.

U.S. proposes making Radio Marti, broadcaster to Cuba, independent

By Arshad Mohammed, Warren Strobel and David Adams

(Reuters) - The White House has proposed turning Radio Marti, a U.S. government-controlled broadcaster created in part to undermine communist rule in Cuba, into a separate entity as Washington seeks rapprochement with Havana.

The proposal, buried in the federal budget released last month, was made some six weeks after the United States and Cuba agreed on Dec. 17 to embark on an effort to restore diplomatic ties and normalize relations after more than 50 years of enmity.
