Microtelecom announces new Perseus22 receiver !

Perseus22 is a 4 channels, direct sampling receiver with a continuous frequency coverage from 10 KHz to 225 MHz and a typical image rejection larger than 70 dB.

All channels are synchronously sampled by an high SNR, 14 bits A/D converter and processed by a software defined digital down converter, implemented on an FPGA, which outputs are routed to the host PC by a USB 3.0 controller, allowing wide-bandwidth IF applications.

The frequency coverage is split-up in 2 groups of channels (two for VLF-HF frequency range, the others for VHF), each one capable of diversity, which can reduce noise in order of tens dB. All channels includes an analog RF frontend equipped with attenuators, preselection filters and amplifiers.

The receiver enclosure is machined from solid aluminium and finished with a fine, non reflecting, black surface treatment.

Microtelecom estimates that new Perseus22 will be available in October'22, price is not confirmed yet, will be communicated by end of July' 22.

All India Radio, Chennai celebrates 85th anniversary

All India Radio, Chennai, is entering into its 85th year today. The public broadcaster began airing programmes this same day in 1938. It was one of the six radio stations that was operational at the time of Indian Independence, the others being Delhi, Lucknow, Tiruchirapalli and the erstwhile Bombay and Calcutta.

All India Radio is known for programmes that stick to the ethical broadcasting norms with "Bahujana Hitaya, Bahujana Sukhaya" as its guiding principle. Independent assessments like the one by the leading news agency Reuters and listeners' feedback from across the country testify to the credibility of AIR News.

AIR correspondent reports, The erstwhile Madras, which is now Chennai, is one of the few Indian cities where the experiment with radio broadcast thrived during the formative years of the popular medium.

After several evolutionary stages under different names and ownerships, it got its name and structure as All India Radio, Madras on this day in 1938.

It continues to air programmes on varied subjects including news, current affairs, education and entertainment.

AIR stations including Chennai broadcast seamlessly the programmes and news on all the times, be it rains or sunshine, storms or lockdowns, normal days or tough times, in serving its crores of listeners in every nook and corners which has the footprint in the whole country.

Another feather in its cap is that the FM radio broadcast in India originated in Chennai on 23rd July, 1977.

IITI SUMMER RACE 2022

Light summer wood: IITI SUMMER RACE 2022

The host of Iitti is organizing an easy but still small business summer competition to activate LW-MW-SW listening during the quiet summer holiday season. All participants have access to identical radios, antennas and locations!

The competition period is from midsummer to the end of July, 22.6. - 31.7. 2022 UTC.

Objective: To hear and identify stations from as many continents as possible, at as many different megahertz (0-27) and using as many different remote receivers as possible.

1) Collect as many continents as possible. The participating Continents are: Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America and North America. Antarctica decided to skip. The location of the transmitter is decisive. Example: NHK / Woofferton is Europe.

2) Collect as many different megahertz as possible. Example: You have heard frequencies 225, 648, 1215, 1358, 5995, 6005 and 6120kHz => So you have heard stations in megahertz 0, 1, 5 and 6 => Four different megahertz. Frequencies are not tricky: If a station has a listed frequency of 1000kHz but has an -15Hz offset, it is considered to be 1000kHz. Any harmonic multiples, mixing results, etc. - are invalid.

3) Use as many different remote receivers as possible. However, this does not mean that the same stations should be heard on more than one receiver. Eligible remote receivers are listed in the list "Official Finnish listening stations of the Finnish DX Association and members or member associations" maintained by Peksu PSO, which is available at https://bit.ly/Kesäkisa_2022

If the selection changes during the competition, all those who have been mentioned in the list at the time of listening will be eligible. Iitti is not in a special position but one among the others.

4) Only radio stations - no weather services, utilities, etc. Pirates are valid but you shouldn't be fooled by cooperating with them.

5) If there are any deficiencies in the rules or logs, the jury or the host of the competition will resolve them in the way they deem best. The jury doesn't do a plethora of investigations - so the shots should be sure, clear and undisputed.

Score: Number of different continents [times] Number of different megahertz [times] Number of different remote receivers.

Example: You have heard stations from Europe, Asia and South America. You have heard stations with megahertz 0, 1, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 15. You have heard stations using Lohja, Kotka EC1, Raisio and Virtain remote listening stations. Calculation: 3 X 7 X 4 = 84 points.

In possible draw points, the number of more reported goes ahead.
Participants must send a list by e-mail of the identifications they wish to consider by Thursday 4.8. By 2022 to the summer race @ ... - remember the necessity of this, only then have you participated.

In addition to the log lines, the e-mail must also include the participant's calculation of the number of continents, megahertz, and remote receivers he hears. All you have to do is report the lots that are relevant to the scoring. Shocks should include the station name, continent, frequency, date, time, and remote receiver used for listening. Excel spreadsheets are also valid, preferably.

The prizes are the most special:

1: Genuine B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, and B-29 Superfortress used in secret radio destruction switch: "Danger. To Destroy special radio press both buttons simultaneously."

2: Japanese crystal machine Germaphone MG-304 from about 1960. Unused!

3: A framed, glazed photograph depicting Alexandr Popov next to his antenna on Suursaari in 1900. The image has been the property of YLE and hung at least on the wall of the Fabianinkatu radio house.

The results will be announced and prizes will be mailed to the winners after the competition. If the count goes well, the matter will be glowed at the Association's summer meeting.

The contest is also open for Non-Finnish participants resided anywhere, although the rules above are published in Finnish only.
