BCDX Net celebrates 29th anniversary !

The weekly BCDX Net operating on the 40 Meter Amateur Band in South India will  celebrated its 29th anniversary on 26 Nov 2017.

BCDX net is controlled by Mr.Sanil Deep, VU3SIO on 7085 kHz LSB at 0300-0330 UTC (8.30 to 9.00 am IST.) on sundays. 

This Net was started on Sunday November 27, 1988 by a small group of Amateurs viz. Shanmughasundaram VU2FOT, Victor Goonetilleke 4S7VK, Jose Jacob VU2JOS and some SWL's.

The whole concept of this Net started when these Hams used to meet regularly on the band and exchanged DX news at various times. This later transformed into a regular Net which benefited many people. This Net is conducted on Sunday mornings for the advantage of those who are keenly interested in Broadcast Band Dxing.The unique thing about this Net is that is helped Hams to become SWL Dxers and SWL's to become Hams !

On a typical Sunday morning,the Net control starts the Net by calling in for regular check-ins. After about 10 minutes he gives the latest DX tips that he has gathered and later other stations also takes turn in exchanging their DX information. It has all the ingredients of a live two way DX program and continues for about 30 minutes depending on the traffic. For some time it was known as SWL DX Net.

The Net grew up with VU2KAK Anil, VU3SIO Sanil,VU2ISR Harsha, VU3ITI Varadhan, VU3DJQ Raman, VU2NGB Binu,VU2BNP Prahalad, VU3BGK Neel, VU2ICI Mohan, VU2MUD Madhu etc.joining in.

In 1989 a monthly newsletter was published on behalf of the Net by VU2FOT which was unfortunately discontinued after some issues. In May 1991 a BCDX Net Convention was held at Kozhikode which was a big success & attended by over 85 people including Victor Goonetilleke 4S7VK from Sri Lanka. A Ham station with the special call sign VU2F was also operational at the convention venue. A DX contest sponsored by Radio Netherlands was organized on 29 & 30th January 1994 in collaboration with Union of Asian DXERS, Sri Lanka. Special QSL cards were issued by Radio Netherlands for the occasion. In 1995 a special QSL card was also issued to mark the 7th anniversary of the Net by VU2BNP. In 1989 Adventist World Radio Wavescan broadcasted a special program on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the BCDX Net. Articles on BCDX Net has also appeared in "NIAR Ham News" July 1998 issue, "Hamfest India" 1998 souvenir and other DX publications and was also mentioned in various DX programs several times. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of BCDX NET, Mr.Sanil Deep broadcast a special program in Wavescan program of Adventist World Radio on Sunday 23 Nov 2008. Special QSLs were also issued by BCDX Net for the occasion.

The BCDX Net has been very regular all these long 23 years, thanks to the dedicated Net Controllers. Now a days it is conducted on Sunday mornings at 0830 IST (0300 UTC ) on 7085 kHz USB on 40 meter Amateur Band which covers South India & Sri Lanka. Occasionally it was also conducted on the 20 Meter Band 14150 kHz at 2130 IST ( 1600 UTC). Currently the regular net controller is Sanil Deep VU3SIO and assisted from time to time by VU2JOS etc.

This is to inform with great pleasure that the 25th anniversary of the BC DX Net conducted on Sundays at 8.30 am IST (0300 UTC) on 7085 kHz by Sanil Deep, VU3SIO and friends is to be celebrated on 24th November 2013.

This Net was started on Sunday November 27, 1988 by a small group of Amateurs viz. Shanmughasundaram VU2FOT, Victor Goonetilleke 4S7VK, Jose Jacob VU2JOS and some SWLs to exchange information on broadcasting stations.

Hams from Hyderabad aiding rescue ops

HYDERABAD: VU2JOS is on the job. And so is VU2MCW. Two hams, amateur radio operators, are volunteering in the rescue operations in Uttarakhand. The National Institute of Amateur Radio (Niar) in the city has jumped into action to assist the administration in establishing contact at places which are difficult to access.

Community Radio gives voice to Uttarakhand victims

MUMBAI: Heaving pouring in Uttarakhand has made the rescue operation complicated, but at this difficult time, flow of information has become an important task. Gram Vaani has set up free Mobile Vaani for each of the three community radio stations (CRS)- Kumaon Vani (Mukteshwar), Mandakini Ki Awaz (Rudraprayag) and Henvalvani (Chamba Valley) in the flood affected region.

Jose Jacob gets Diamond DXCC Award

On 6 Feb 2012 Jose Jacob, VU2JOS qualified for Diamond DXCC Award issued by American Radio Relay League (ARRL) by contacting 100 countries / entities during the calendar year 2012. The award is issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the prestigious DXCC award. One has to make contacts with 100 entities as per the Diamond DXCC list (Countries list as it was in 1937). It took Jose 37 days to make the contacts. Being a CW enthusiast, he reported that out of 100 entities contacted, as many as 92 of them were in CW and the rest 8 in SSB. In fact till now he has already contacted 111. ARRL has informed that Jose Jacob was first from India to apply for this award.

Jose Jacob,VU2JOS gets "Sea of Peace 2011" award from Germany for 4th time

I am happy to inform that Jose Jacob,VU2JOS has received "Sea of Peace 2011" Award from Germany recently for the 4th time !

The SOP is awarded by the DARC local club for contacts with different countries/areas bordering the Baltic Sea and Norway in one year from 1st to 31st of July. He came to know of this award when he visited Baltic area of Germany and has since tried for this award every year successfully.

Ham radio helps combat Cyclone "Aila"

On the 25th of May 2009, a deep depression coiled over Bay of Bengal became Cyclonic formation “Aila” which struck the coastal districts of West Bengal with wind speeds over 90 kmph causing immense devastation in the region. The river banks breached at several locations as incessant rains caused river waters raise to unprecedented levels inundating farm lands, submerged houses in hundreds of villages resulting in hundreds of casualties and rendering millions of people homeless.

The team consists with OM Sara, VU3RSB, OM Frank, DL4KQ/VU3FRK, OM Jose, VU2JOS, YL Yamini, VU2YAM & OM Manju, VU2SMS. The callsign will be AT9RS. Grandi Island is an uninhabited Island and Location is: 14.92N - 15.77N / 73.67E - 74.07E . The setup would be one CW & one SSB Station with Vertical and Dipoles.
