AIH18 DXpedition to Aihkiniemi

Logging AM stations from Malawi, Uganda and other African countries was the highlight of this October DXpedition. From the East, new Thai and Chinese stations were heard often. AIH18 began just two weeks after we concluded AIH17, and in between there were no major changes in propagation or the smorgasbord of AM stations available.

As usual, it’s lovely to get away and do some DXing with DX pals. Vashek Korinek joined us from his home QTH in Johannesburg, 1400 km away and says its worth the airfare and car hire as Seefontein is a grand DX location. Vince Stevens was there as usual and I was accompanied by my dear wife Dawn.

Bangladesh DXpedition

The 'Foundation with Global Children (FGC) DX Group' is pleased to announce their next multi-national DXpedition to Bangladesh using the callsign S21YZ between March 17-30th.
Bangladesh is the 14th most wanted country in North America. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, including the 30/17/12 meter bands, and using the modes CW, SSB and RTTY.
The team plans to erect high gain antennas, use filtering and receive antennas, and run 4 stations with amplifiers 24 hours a day.
They state, "We have a new and improved QTH and will focus on the low bands to maximize this time of year.

Also, we intend to listen carefully to the needs of the DX community during the operation by monitoring the activity on our Web site, and other social media outlets for band openings, and dialogue with the radio community."

Unusually good VHF Propogation in South India

Dear Friends,

Do try out the VHF Band and we here at Bangalore are getting the VU2TCD - Trichangud repeater 59+ and not just hear but work with simple quarter wave whip of my car which I have never been able to trigger and bearly hear from 3rd floor rooftop !!!

Bangalore Boys are happy lot to even try UHF with successful reports. Stations from Madurai can work Bangalore !!!

AIH3 DXpedition to Aihkiniemi

The first ever purpose-built DXpedition base in Finland was constructed earlier this year, tested by us in October, and found to be excellent. A spartan cabin in the middle of nowhere is equipped with nine beverage antennas, each almost a kilometer in length. A bunch of New Zealand AM stations and a 10-watt highway advisory station from Alaska were among the highlights heard in Aihkiniemi.

New Year DXpedition in Lapland at -38 degrees

The uninhabited Grandi Island, Goa, India (AS-177) was activated for the very first time for IOTA (Islands on the Air) in CW & SSB on 5th to 8th April 2009 by German DX Foundation (GDXF), National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR). The World Light House on the Air (WLOTA) number for Grandi Island is : WLOTA 1641

Grandi Island is an uninhabited Island and Location is: 14.92N - 15.77N / 73.67E - 74.07E . The setup would be one CW & one SSB Station with Vertical and Dipoles.

Mandarmani - the dream DX location

Veteran dxer Dr.Supratik Sanatani from Kolkata recently visited 'Mandarmani' during holidays. " I was there to take break.I had not planned serious DX because in this period of low sunspot and peak Indian summer no one expects any DX. But I was awe struck by the quality of radio signals from this DX location. I am seriously planning a DX camp there in the end of December. I am sure it will repeat the success of the Chandipore DX camps of the late eighties. " says Dr.Sanatani
