Community Radio Station to start at Lalitpur, U.P

Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station at Sai Jyoti Gramodhyog Samaj Sewa Samiti, Lalitpur, U.P. Letter of Intent had been issued to the Institute after recommendations of Inter Ministerial Committee and seeking requisite clearances from various Ministries. The Community Radio Station is expected to be operational within three months as per the agreement. With this, the number of CRS will increase to 62 in the country.

The Sai Jyoti Gramodhyog Samaj Sewa Samiti focuses on addressing the social, economic and political deprivation of the community by regularly mobilizing local funds and also organizing health camps and awareness programme in the project location. The organization has also imparted training programs with the support of UNICEF (Jalnigam), DRDA, Lalitpur on hand pump mechanism, SHG'S Training etc. The Organization has been actively involved in social development work and creative awareness on water & sanitation, HIV/AIDS, NSV and Polio Immunization.

The Ministry encourages setting up the Community Radio Station as it promises to provide an opportunity to the local communities to express themselves, share their views and particularly the empowerment of women, youth and the marginalized groups to take part in local self governance and overall socio, economic and cultural development in the area. The CRS programs will be based on developmental, agricultural, health, educational, environmental, social welfare, community development and cultural programs.
