Major restructure unfolds at KBS

KBS has undertaken a major organizational restructure as of June 11, 2010. The latest change aims to redefine roles and responsibilities of KBS as public service broadcaster which places greater emphasis on audience and broadcasting content.

Main points of the recent restructure are as follows;

- Newly-introduced organizational structure of KBS consists of 5 Divisions and 3 Centers.
- 5 Divisions: Audience Relations, News & Sports, Content, New Media & Technology, Policy Planning
- 3 Centers: Programming, Radio, Production Resources

New structure has been designed to reshape KBS as an audience and content-centered organization. Several new departments dealing with Audiences Rights Protection and Public Welfare Services have been created to achieve such a goal. Television Division has been reorganized into Content Division which will oversee not only planning and production of content but also content distribution. Documentary Department has been set up under Content Division to meet the goal of enhancing KBS as a content-oriented broadcaster. Also, New Media & Technology Division has been created in order to actively respond to the future media environment. Production Resources Center includes various support services of KBS such as TV & News Operations and Visual & Radio Technical Operations. Newly appointed executives and the updated organizational structure of KBS can be found at

KBS International Radio to offer more services

The Vietnamese Language Service of KBS’ international radio broadcasting, KBS World Radio, celebrates its 5th anniversary on March 3, 2010. As part of the celebration, a Singing Contest of Korean Songs took place at KBS on January 24. A total of six Vietnamese finalists living in Korea entered the competition and showed outstanding performances of the latest hits in Korean pop music. A series of preliminary competitions was held for a month prior to the final contest.
Meanwhile, KBS World Radio has further expanded its services. Following the launch of its English news onto Naver, the nation’s leading Internet portal site, in October last year, the international radio began to service its Chinese and Japanese news from February 1. Also, from January 29, KBS World Radio started to provide its English and Japanese news services to Japan nationwide through Nikkei Telecom. The Radio’s new “Slow-paced News” service through its multi-lingual website ( http://world.kbs.co.kr ) is getting overwhelming response from foreigners home and abroad and learners of English language. The service enables the listeners to enjoy the news at a slower speed.
