The Gyan Vani FM stations at Agra, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Srinagar, Tiruchirapalli and Thiruvanthapuram were inagurated on 10th February 2010 afternoon making it a total of 37 such stations. The inaguration ceremony was broadcast live by all Gyna Vani stations including the one in our city Hyderabad.
In his speech Mr. Ravi Kant, Director, Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi who runs the network said that the proposal to set up such stations in Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar and Ludhiana has been dropped due to non availabilty of AIR FM stations in these locations. He also announced that in the next phase (Phase II) 15 more new FM stations are planned including 6 in NE India.
The transmitters of Gyan Vani are installed at AIR stations and also maintained by AIR.
