Gyan Vani FM channels to resume operation from January

The operation of Gyan Vani FM channels, which were stopped in 2014 due to discontinuation of payments by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), will be resumed from January.

Signing of an MoU between IGNOU and All India Radio (AIR) last week paved the way for resuming the operation of the educational radio channels.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor Prof Ravindra Kumar, who was present on the occasion of the MoU signing on December 9, said in the near future, there will be 56 Gyan Vani channels.

Before being shut down on October 1, 2014, 37 Gyan Vani stations across the country were broadcasting educational radio programmes which were instructional and enriched in nature for different target groups.

The MoU will facilitate sharing of Prasar Bharati's broadcasting infrastructure for the transmission of Gyan Vani radio stations which possess 10 KW FM transmitters, Prof Kiron Bansal, in-charge of Public Information Unit at IGNOU, said.

Gyan Vani began operations in 2001 as a collaborative media initiative of Human Resource Development and Information and Broadcasting ministries. IGNOU was the nodal organisation running the channels.

Due to discontinuation of payments by IGNOU from April 1, 2013, resulting in accumulation of dues to the tune of Rs 21.64 crore, operation of Gyan Vani channels were stopped by AIR.

Airwaves come to the aid of students

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) regional centre in Bhubaneswar will soon launch a Gyan Vani FM radio station to enhance the learning process of the students enrolled under the various programmes of the university.

Gyan Vani Thiruvananthapuram strated txn on 1st July

The Thiruvananthapuram station of Gyan Vani FM radio channel, set up by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), started its local transmission from July 1. Regional Director, IGNOU, B. Sukumar said here on Wednesday that the station would offer value-added educational programmes for listeners in and around Thiruvananthapuram city. The programmes would be aired from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.Gyan Vani is a unit of Gyan Darshan, IGNOU's educational TV channel. The programmes transmitted from the studio of All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram can be heard on 105.6 MHz. Dr. Sukumar said efforts were on to set up an independent studio for Gyan Vani.A press note issued by IGNOU said Gyan Vani programmes were aimed at enhancing and supplementing the teaching-learning process.

Kochi Gyanvani, an educational FM channel, will start its broadcast today

C.P. Rajasekharan, station manager, Gyan Vani Educational FM, said in a release that it is an initiative of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). A studio will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram in the future, he said. A special musical feature on the occasion of Vishu will also be broadcast on April 15. The relevance of the festival will be highlighted through the programme.

Gyan Vani completes Phase 1 Projects

The Gyan Vani FM stations at Agra, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Srinagar, Tiruchirapalli and Thiruvanthapuram were inagurated on 10th February 2010 afternoon making it a total of 37 such stations. The inaguration ceremony was broadcast live by all Gyna Vani stations including the one in our city Hyderabad.

In his speech Mr. Ravi Kant, Director, Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi who runs the network said that the proposal to set up such stations in Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar and Ludhiana has been dropped due to non availabilty of AIR FM stations in these locations. He also announced that in the next phase (Phase II) 15 more new FM stations are planned including 6 in NE India.

The transmitters of Gyan Vani are installed at AIR stations and also maintained by AIR.

Gyan Vani rolls out six new stations

MUMBAI: Gyan Vani, the FM radio channel initiated by the Human Resources Development ministry and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) with the help of Prasar Bharati, is all set to roll out six channels on Wednesday. This would bring the total number of Gyan Vani stations to 37 in the country.

Maurai Kamaraj University to commission FM radio soon

Madurai Kamaraj University is all set to commission the Gyan Vani FM Radio to broadcast educational programmes for students. The transmission trials will start in the next few days and the formal launch is expected to take place on September 15, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai.
