Radio tech heads for convergence with Net

HYDERABAD: In this age of Internet penetration, imagine sending an e-mail even when your Internet or local wire line connection is down. In what could be a major boon for the people caught in calamities and wanting mode for transmitting information, the National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR) has taken a significant step towards integration of radio technologies communications with Internet. Being tested on a pilot basis in 10 areas across the country, the project once successful will ensure the much-desired last mile connectivity to places where Internet penetration is still a far cry.
