DRM Education Webinar

Under the Title of "Digital Radio Mondiale DRM – Delivering Distance Education," the DRM Consortium in collaboration with Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) hosted an interactive webinar session on June 18th which enjoyed the participation of over 165 participants, on par with previous two April webinars organised with the great support of ABU .

During the 120 minute webinar today participants saw how Digital Radio Mondiale DRM can be as effective or even more effective than the internet in delivering rich and targeted teaching material to millions of students who have no access to IP connections and devices.

The webinar main presenters (Alex Zink, Thimmaiah Kuppanda Ganapathy and Ruxandra Obreja) went through the planning and programming stages of getting education audio and text content to the listeners or rather users. The presenters looked at the transmission chain, the content server configuration (the teacher), the DRM software radio receiver (the student) and the DRM distance learning content, with a live demo at the end. During the webinar the questions kept coming and they were answered on the spot or will be answered in writing very soon. A selection of these will be posted on the new Q@A page of the www.drm.org website.

Next series of three webinars by DRM consortium will be organised with AIBD and will start on July 8th. If you wish to be a presenter in August or September please contact DRM consortium.

Following from the two successful webinars "DRM Benefits in Times of Crisis," the DRM Consortium in collaboration with Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union (ABU) is announcing a follow-up interactive webinar session, focused on "DRM for Education" on June 18th, details for registration will follow shortly.

The webinar will try to demonstrate how digital radio DRM can be as effective in delivering rich and tailored teaching material to millions of students who have no access to IP connections and devices. The webinar will be mainly practical and interactive and will highlight the great advantage of digital over analogue in delivering education and information in a new way.

Digital Radio Mondiale™ (DRM) collaborates with ABU and ASBU to jointly host webinar

Under the theme of "DRM Benefits in Times of Crisis," The DRM Consortium in collaboration with Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union (ABU) and Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) will jointly and for the first time host a two-part interactive webinar session. The webinar will focus on key DRM benefits and what makes the standard so useful in times of crisis and disasters.

The first session will take place on Thursday 23rd April 2020 and the second session will take place a week later Thursday 30th April 2020 (0800 UTC, 0900 BST- London and Tunis time, 1600 MYT, Kuala Lumpur time).

Both webinars will explore the benefits of the DRM digital radio technology in times of crisis and disasters by demonstrating key features such as, Emergency Warning Functionality (EWF), monitoring map, content server programming using Journaline and how the DRM technology is used in public signage. The webinars will also delve into how DRM data casting technology could be valuable in education for all, especially in regions which are not always covered by internet or television signals.

The speakers will include: Ruxandra Obreja (DRM Chair), Alexander Zink (Fraunhofer IIs, DRM Vice-Chair), Yogendra Pal (Chair Indian Platform), Simon Keens (Ampegon), Jan Bremer (NXP) and Radu Obreja (DRM Marketing Director).

According to DRM Chairman, Ruxandra Obreja:" This webinar duo on the 23rd and 30th of April is a first for us as our long and fruitful cooperation with ABU is now being enriched with that of ASBU. We feel that as a lot of people are under lockdown just now, a webinar is an excellent opportunity to learn more about DRM and its many advantages, beyond excellent audio, which can become particularly useful in times of crisis. DRM FREE WEBINAR– 18th November 2013

The DRM Consortium is holding a free webinar aimed largely at India with the participation of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

 

"DRM – Extra Features and Benefits – A Better Choice for Listeners" will be presented by experts from India and senior members of the DRM Consortium from around the world. A short presentation will be followed by questions and answers on the exciting aspects of DRM and the practical ways of making them available in receivers.

 

The webinar will be held on 18th November 1530-1700 India time (1000-1130 GMT/ UTC). Although the event is primarily aimed at the Indian market worldwide participants will be very welcome.

The webinar will tackle issues of interest in India and the current debate on radio digitisation for example: why is DRM superior to analogue, the implementation of the roll out plan in India and why get involved in receiver manufacturing now.

Ruxandra Obreja, Chair of the DRM Consortium, says: "All India Radio recently published a call for a tender for DRM 800 consumer receivers - alongside a tender for professional ones - demonstrating the will to take their digital roll out plan to the next level. This is an excellent sign for all manufacturers as multi-standard chipsets including DRM are already available. This makes the integration of the DRM standard into receivers an easier and more cost-effective process."

DRM Consortium free Webinar on 24th June –“From FM to digital - The flexible and economical way”

The Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium experts will present and answer questions on June 24th from 1230 to 1330 GMT/UTC on why DRM (in its DRM+ mode) is an excellent solution for public, commercial and community stations. Senior DRM members will present the DRM+ special features, highlight some of the DRM+ practical lessons from Norway, France etc. and give answers to some practical questions on the subject.

Eivind Engberg, Chief Engineer at Radio Metro, Norway, one of the panellists says: "We have just run a successful DRM+ trial in Norway which demonstrated how the DRM technology can perfectly fit within the Norwegian radio digital landscape. DRM+ can help medium-sized and smaller station operating in the FM band to move to the next level with confidence and operational savings."

DRM webinar: Your Burning Questions Answered

The DRM Consortium organized a webinar on Tuesday, 25th January to cover all the frequently asked questions. During and at the end of the presentation, participants had the ability to send questions to the panellists. The webinar was a successful event which gathered more than 45 people.
