He was the honorary regional monitoring systems coordinator for International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 3, the first ever Indian to hold the post. He is a member of the Amateur Radio Society of India (ARSI).

AT8VTM - International Museum Weekend 17th to 27th June 2011 at VITM, Bangalore

Special Event Station VU0WFF - Daroji Bear Sanctuary Oct 1-10, 2010

A small group of Amateur Radio volunteers led by VU2UR and VU2LX have started from Bangalore Amateur Radio Club VU2ARC with equipment from Lions Club International ARC VU2ARC - a unique activity of Lions Club of Bangalore North (Club # 026596 District 324-D6) and hope to make many QSOs on SSB and CW.

Those who are making QSO are eligible for Special QSL Card provided you send your QSL card, Address Label (no SASE), sufficient postage stamp (Rs. 5/- if you are from India else 2 IRCs).

Our previous operation was AT8WFF done for First Time in our country at Bannerghatta National Park in 2008 where we could get the Permanent Pictorial Postal Cancellation of Butterfly Park with logo of WFF details and picture are on http://www.qrz.com/db/AT8WFF

Very soon the India Post would be releasing the Permenant Pictorial Postal Cancellation at Kannada University Campus - Kamalapura 583276 for which our LISC India Chapter is following up.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden vide Letter No.D/WL/CR-70/2008-9 dated 13th Sep 2010 has permitted Amateur (Ham) Radio Special Event Station at Daroji Bear Sanctuary on occasion of "Wildlife Week" - October 4th, 2010 happens to be "Global Day for Protection of Animals" where as 10-10-10 10:10:10 that is Oct 10th, 2010 happens to be Palindromic Date and Time.

The Jungle Lodges and Resorts Limited has recently opened a 20 Twin bedded cottages naming after as Sloth Bear Resort -Kamalapur - Hampi which is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Karnataka State with packages and discounted tariff to Amateur (Ham) Radio Volunteers and their family. ARSI Monitoring System Coordinator and Contests manager

VU2UR OM Arasu Manohar, who has been doing a wonderful job of MS Coordinator and Contests Manager for ARSI over the past many years has expressed a desire to give up the tasks from 1st Jan 2010. During the recent Hamfest in Bangalore it was agreed that VU2DSI Datta Deogaonkar will take up the responsibility of MS Coordinator and VU2PTT OM Prasad Rajagopal will take up the task of Contest Manager. I thank Arasu for performing these very arduous tasks very diligently for so many years and thank Datta and Prasad for readily accepting to take them up. Arasu has kindly agreed to pass on his very extensive knowledge to the new incumbents so that a smooth transition will evolve.

4th Himalayan Contest 2009

Date: 31st October 2009 1200 UTC (1730 IST) to 1st November 2009 1200 UTC(1730 IST).

This contest is open for VU QSOs only. Regular/Occasional Net controllers, Organisers of this contest, are not ELIGIBLE FOR ANY PRIZES. They may, however, take part and send their logs to help the participants.

RULES :

- Bands: 1.8 to 28 MHz except WARC and VHF/UHF.

- Modes: CW, SSB, Mixed. - Contest Call: VUs call “CQ Himalaya” in SSB and “CQ HC” in CW.

- Category: Single Operator Single Band CW or SSB or Mixed.

Single Operator Multi Bands CW or SSB or Mixed

- SWLs: Multiband CW or SSB or Mixed - Exchange: VUs give “six digit PIN code” combination to VUs.

- Restriction: A particular VU can be worked only once in any band irrespective of Mode.

- Only VU-VU QSOs. If you work VU2ABC on 7 cw, no need to work him again on any other band or mode.

- Scoring: Every QSO with a unique PIN code is 1 point.

- All VUs located in States like JK,HP,UP,SK,WB,AS,AR count for 5 points each. They have either the foothills or the Himalayan range in their State.

- Bonus: Every CW QSO gives 5 points Bonus.

- SWLs: VU SWLs must report complete 2-way QSOs of contest stations. Every station can be
logged only once.

- A complete QSO between VU and VU gives 5 points on any band.
- Multipliers: Every unique exchange which a VU station gives is a multiplier.

Example: 600042,602002,615003, 695403,560075,571313 etc are different multipliers.

A multiplier is counted only once for all bands taken together.

Final Score: It is the (sum of QSO points from individual band/bands) multiplied by the (sum of multipliers from individual band/bands)
