"Behind the microphone" – the audience steps into the world of Swedish Radio

As part of Sveriges Radio's 100th anniversary, Sveriges Radio is opening its studio doors to 100 listeners for a day behind the scenes. The initiative is called "Behind the Microphone".

It is a way to celebrate our century-old history – together with those we exist for, says program director Sofia Wadensjö Karén .

Up to 100 listeners from all over the country will have the opportunity to visit their favorite editorial office, see how the programs are made and maybe be heard on the air themselves. A number of selected podcasts and programs are included in the initiative, including, "Ask Agnes Wold", "In the mind of Louise Epstein", "Sportextra" "Klassisk morgon" or "Klassisk förmidtning", "Morning session in P3", "Kvällspasset" and "Lantzkampen" to name a few.

The initiative is inspired by similar initiatives by international public service broadcasters. Both the BBC and DR have opened their newsrooms to the public during their 100th anniversary celebrations, which was a great success.

This is a fantastic opportunity. It is clear that listeners will enter our radio houses and studios. I hope that I will also have the honor of meeting some listeners who want to visit us, says Titti Schultz , one of the presenters of P4 Extra, which is also a program that can be visited.

Listeners apply by submitting a short motivation and information about how it works and which programs and editorial departments listeners can apply to is available via Sveriges Radio's website . Applications open on 1 September and are open until 31 September, when each editorial department will then select the listeners who will be allowed to visit at the end of the year.

Swedish DX Federation brings up motion to restore Radio Sweden broadcasts in MW & SW

Let Radio Sweden Intl. become radio again !

At the annual meeting of SDXF (Swedish DX Federation), a motion was approved to send a letter to the Riksdag regarding the restoration of Radio Sweden International's broadcasts on medium and short waves. The letter was sent to all parties in the Riksdag, members and deputies of the Culture Committee, four ministers concerned and the board of Sveriges Radio. The date has been chosen in view of the Riksdag's consideration of the bill on permits for radio broadcasts, which will be considered on 1st October.

Relaunch for Radio Sweden

Starting Monday, October 5, 2015, Radio Sweden will relaunch with a new focus on all things digital: web, mobile and social media. This means that we'll be discontinuing our daily radio broadcasts and instead, we'll be providing you with a better news service online, which you can access any time.

We'll still broadcast every week on Thursdays from 16:30 to17:00. This broadcast will air again on Mondays at the same time and can be downloaded as a podcast whenever you like. It will also be available through Swedish Radio's smartphone app.

With our digital relaunch, we look forward to keeping in touch with you via social media, where you can comment on our stories, share your views on interesting questions or let us know about something we may have missed.

Radio Sweden Ends Medium, Short Wave

Radio Sweden will terminate its medium and short wave broadcasts this October 31st in favour of web services - with Swedish Radio management stating that is the best use of resources and in line with international trends.
The English-language service is to continue on the web and on national broadcasts.
The Russian output will be available on the web as is the German now. Among the immigrant languages, Albanian, Assyrian-Syriac and Bosnian-Serbian-Croatian are to be terminated on the same date. Meanwhile, Arabic and Somali - the largest immigrant language groups here at present - are to be boosted. The same applies to Romani - one of Sweden's five official minority languages.
The Persian service is to include even Dari spoken by the rapidly increasing number of Afghan refugees coming to Sweden. Kurdish broadcasts remain unchanged.
Swedish Radio's output in immigrant languages will be available on the web and broadcast nationally.

Sweden resumes DAB interest

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - The Swedish government halted digital radio investments in 2005 due to low consumer response. However, interest in digital radio remains.Network operator Teracom has been conducting tests of DAB, DAB+ and T-DMB. The tests include programming from commercial, community and public service broadcasters.

MADAGASCAR

Fire puts RNW Madagascar relay station off the air. There has been a fire in the high voltage room of the external mains power supply at Radio Netherlands Worldwide's relay station in Madagascar. Firefighters from the Madagascan capital Antananarivo managed to bring the blaze under control within hours. The fire destroyed the high voltage circuit breaker equipment, so broadcasts from Madagascar will be suspended for at least three days and possibly up to a week. Some transmissions have already been moved to other sites, but because of the Christmas holidays this has taken longer than usual to organise. Additional changes are pending and will be published when confirmed.

Radio Sweden Eng B09 Freq Change

Due to interference from another radio station, we are being forced to change our broadcast frequency to East Asia at 13:30 UTC on 7465 Khz. The new frequency will be 7405 Khz. The change comes into effect as of the 4th of November.

No More Printed Schedule or QSL Cards from Radio Sweden

The start of the new transmission period for short and medium wave, as well as satellite, on October 25, Radio Sweden will only be publishing our broadcast schedule on the Web. This is a logical consequence of the increasing importance of the Internet as a broadcast platform and because we have stopped broadcasting our own programs in Swedish. At the same time we are simplifying our marketing and audience services.Listeners to our programs will find the schedules for all our languages under the heading “Frequencies/Tider och frekvenser” on the SR International homepage. When necessary and by request we will also continue to mail printed versions of our schedules in Swedish and other languages. Listeners can also contact Swedish Radio’s Listener Service department with requests. At the same time we are discontinuing mailing QSL cards to listeners in response to reception reports.

Swedish Radio to drop Belarusian service

Swedish Radio has decided to discontinue the service in Belarusian, from September 1, 2009.The broadcasts on medium and shortwave began on a test basis in 2004. Elle-Kari Höjeberg, responsible for Swedish Radio’s broadcasts in foreign languages, says that since then “there has been an explosion in other platforms that medium and shortwave”. She adds that Swedish Radio will look for new ways to reach an audience in other parts of the world. Ingemar Löfgren, head of SR International, which also includes Radio Sweden, says his ambition is to strengthen and prioritize other areas within the department. He points out that SR International will continue to broadcast in Russian, a language that is also understood in Belarus.

Extra Money for Swedish Public Broadcasting

Swedish Public Service broadcasters Swedish Radio, Swedish Television and the Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company are to be granted higher share of viewer licence fees next year.Writing in the daily Dagens Nyheter Thursday, Culture Minister Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth says she wants to strengthen the important role that public broadcasting plays, especially for culture. In recent years, the public broadcasting budget has lagged behind inflation and staff salary increases.For Swedish Radio's part, this means a budget increase of 3.9 million dollars next year. The legislation has to be passed by the parliament before it goes into effect.

Radio Sweden new english frequency

Because of schedule changes Radio Sweden will no longer be relaying programs from Swedish Radio’s domestic service between 20:00 and 21:00 hrs UTC. They’re being replaced with Radio Sweden programming, which means that the English broadcast to Africa at 20:30 hrs UTC will also be carried on medium wave 1179 and shortwave 6065 kHz to Europe. They will return to the previous schedule on August 18, 2008.

Radio Sweden stops German broadcasts

After 69 years Radio Sweden will stop its German program on short and medium wave. Thus the last German program will be broadcasted on 30th March 2008. The number of the short wave hours however in the past years was dramatically reduced.

The Swedish broadcast sees itself confronted with the fact that the incomes always are under the expenditures. This development has the management with its decision to stop the transmissions also considered. SR international will maintain a German language service however from Monday to Friday in the form of messages in the InterNet and as Podcast.
