Three more All India Radio stations on shortwave go off air

The latest monitoring observations show that the following  SW stations of All India Radio that were heard very well till yesterday are absent today, 1st January 2022. This tallies with the various media reports that  some old transmitters of  AIR  stations  were being shut down from yesterday.

1. Jeypore (50 kW) 5040  kHz
2. New Delhi (250 kW) 6030, 6100 kHz
3. Srinagar  (50 kW) 4950, 6110 kHz  

Also the Mumbai (50 kW)  Vividh Bharti transmitter on 1188 kHz  is  noted off air recently

AIR Pure DRM Channels - Change in program content

With effect from 17th May, 2019 All India Radio has changed the content of the program being transmitted in pure DRM mode on AIR Delhi 1368 kHz and AIR Chennai 783 kHz

News on air and half hour slots of western music programs sourced from different regional AIR channels will replace AIR Vividh Bharati service at both places, Delhi and Chennai.

Above transmitters will carry FM Rainbow Delhi and FM Rainbow Chennai as 2nd program channel.

Here's the schedule :

AIR Chennai - 783 kHz (20 kW) Pure DRM (2 channels)
1st Channel - News On Air and Western Music
2nd Channel - FM Rainbow Chennai
Time : 0555-1705 IST, 1800-2310 IST

AIR Delhi - 1368 kHz (20 kW) Pure DRM (2 channels)
1st Channel - News On Air and Western Music
2nd Channel - FM Rainbow Delhi
Time : 0555-1100, 1200-1730, 1815-2310 IST

DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) technology has this unique advantage wherein a listener can listen to two different program channels on a single frequency enabling huge cost saving for broadcasters.

Two new 100KW digital transmitters to broadcast across the border for Afghanistan- Pakistan region

New Delhi, Jul 6 (IBNS): All India Radio expects to commission two new Shortwave Solid State digital transmitters, of 100 kW power each. for dissemination of content across the border for Afghanistan- Pakistan region by the end of August 2017, announced Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Naidu, said that the transmitters will be installed in Delhi.

The I and B minister also said that for the Andaman and Nicobar, a new 100 W FM transmitter would be installed in Car Nicobar by the end of the financial year.

He also mentioned that to enhance the outreach, the 3KW FM transmitter in Daman would be replaced by 6KW transmitter. Similarly, in Karaikal, Puducherry, the present 6 KW FM transmitter would be replaced by 10 KW FM transmitter to enhance the reach.

AIR Vividh Bharati service at Delhi will be inaugurated on 14th April

Jose Jacob informs All India Radio Delhi Vividh Bharati service at Delhi will be inaugurated on 14th April, 2015 by Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India. All India Radio will broadcast inauguration ceremony live 11 am onwards.

New FM channel in Delhi for Commonwealth Games

All India Radio will start a new FM channel from September 1, 2010 on 100.1 MHz to provide Delhiites with latest Commonwealth Games related information.

Prasar Bharati CEO B.S.Lali announced this in a press conference & said that the purpose of this new channel is to bring out the excitement of Commonwealth Games, create awareness among ordinary people & to create sportsmanship among the youth. He said that All India Radio will broadcast special programmes during October 3 to 14 games for the Commonwealth Games.

This new channel will be broadcast programs in both Hindi and English languages during 0700-2300 hours IST . Programmimg will consist of activities related to Commonwealth Games, info on tourist destinations in & around Delhi and Indian art & culture. It will also brodcast scores & results of different sports once the Commonwealth Games starts.

Txer is located on top of AIR headquarters at Parliament Street with a 5 kW power output. Test txn noted this morning, ID'ing as : You are listening to AIR FM Delhi, test transmission on 100.1 MHz

All India Radio Delhi still on 7150 kHz

About 3 months have passed since All India Radio stations shifted from 7100-7200 kHz area. However AIR Delhi (Kingsway) is still noted daily on 7150 kHz at 0030-0040 UTC with news in Hindi and English. Their new frequency 7370 is occupied by FEBA to India at that time.
