SAQ to air on Christmas Eve Morning, Dec 24th 2024

On Christmas Eve morning, Tuesday December 24th 2024, SAQ Grimeton is scheduled* to be on the air, to send out the traditional Christmas message to the whole World, using the 200kW Alexanderson alternator from 1924, on 17.2 kHz CW.

Visitors are very welcome to the transmitter hall at Grimeton radio station to experience the SAQ transmission. Free tickets here:

Program and transmission schedule:
08:00 CET (07:00 UTC): The transmitter hall at World Heritage Grimeton is opened for visitors.

Transmission & YouTube Live stream:
08:25 CET (07:25 UTC): Live stream on YouTube begins.
08:30 CET (07:30 UTC): Startup and tuning of the Alexanderson Alternator SAQ.
09:00 CET (08:00 UTC): Transmission of a Christmas message from SAQ.

Scheduled at 08:25 CET (07:25 UTC) on Dec 24th, 2024.

Test Transmissions

We are planning to carry our some test transmissions on Friday, December 20th, 13:00 – 16:00 CET (12:00 -15:00 UTC). SAQ will be on the air shorter periods of time during this interval, when we will be carrying out tuning, tests and measurements. Your comments are welcome to info@alexander.n.se

SAQ Grimeton Transmission on June 30th, 2019.

The annual transmission on "Alexanderson Day" with the Alexanderson alternator on VLF 17.2 kHz with the call SAQ will take place Sunday, June 30th, 2019.

Two transmissions are scheduled as follows:

Startup of tuning at 10:30 (08:30 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 11:00 (09:00 UTC).
Startup of tuning at 13:30 (11:30 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 14:00 (12:00 UTC)
Both transmission events will be broadcasted live on our YouTube Channel.

We are introducing a new online SAQ reception report form to be used by listeners to report reception of any SAQ transmissions. We are kindly asking listeners not to send SAQ reception reports via E-mail.

SAQ TRANSMISSION ON CHRISTMAS EVE

DECEMBER 24TH, 2014

There will be a transmission with the Alexanderson 200 kW alternator on VLF 17.2 kHz from Grimeton Radio/SAQ on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24th, 2014.

The message transmission will take place at 08:00 UTC (19:00 EDST). The transmitter will be tuned up from around 07:30 UTC (18:30 EDST).

There will be activity on amateur radio frequencies with the call SK6SAQ on any of following frequencies:

-   3,755 SSB
-   7,035 CW
- 14,215 SSB
- 14,035 CW

Transmissions on Alexanderson Day Sunday 29 June 2014


SAQ will be on air on Sunday 29 June. We try to start the transmitter soon after 08.30 UTC so there will be a test signal from about 08.40 UTC and a message will be sent at 09.00 UTC. A similar procedure will start at 11.30 UTC and the message will be repeated at 12.00 UTC. The frequency is 17.2 kHz CW.

We plan for a traditional transmission on Christmas Eve Monday 24 December. We plan to start the transmitter at 07:30 UTC and will be on air a few minutes later. A message will be sent at 08:00 UTC. The frequency is 17.2 kHz CW.

SAQ on air this Sunday

SAQ will be on air on Alexanderson Day, Sunday 4 July 2010 at 09:00 UTC and 12:00 UTC.

The frequency is 17.2 kHz CW.
Start-up and tuning of the transmitter about half an hour before the transmissions.
Reports are welcome and will be confirmed by QSL-cards.

Grimeton Radio / SAQ planned transmissions

GRIMETON RADIO/SAQ PLANNED TRANSMISSIONS, SUMMER AND AUTUMN 2009

There will hopefully be transmissions with the Alexanderson alternator on 17200 kHz, CW (A1A) at the following dates and times during 2009:

1) Tuesday, May 19 2009 at 07:00 and 07:30 UTC.

There will be a transmission to celebrate the Japanese VLF-station Josami Radio/JND when it will be nominated to Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Milestone and also celebrate its start 80 years ago. The radio station is now a museum. No reports required and no QSL-cards are given.

2) Sunday, May 24 2009 at 10:55 UTC.

A transmission will take place to celebrate the First Swedish Coast Radio Station and 100 years of Karlskrona Radio/SAA. The station is still working on military frequencies. No reports required and no QSL-cards are given.

3) Sunday, June 28 at 09:00 and 12:00 UTC.

The annual transmission on "Alexander Day". The station is open to visitors. We are glad to receive reports and will exchange QSL-cards.

4) Saturday, October 24 at 09:00 UTC.

As last year we will transmit on United Nations Day. No reports required and no QSL-cards are given.

5) Thursday, December 24, Christmas Eve at 08:00 UTC.

The Christmas transmission as before. The stations is open to visitors. We are glad to receive reports and will exchange QSL-cards. We will start tuning up some 30 minutes before message.

SAQ is planned to be on air on Wednesday 24th December 2008 at 08.00 UTC and 08.30 UTC. The frequency is 17.2 kHz CW ( 200 kW). Running up an tuning of the transmitter begins about 07.30 UTC. The Alexanderson Day 2009 with transmission is planned to Sunday 28th June.
