Special broadcasts by Akashvani (All India Radio) for Independence Day (15 Aug 2023)

India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day on 15 August 2023, details of special programs by Akashvani (All India Radio) for the occasion is as follows:

14th August 2023 (Monday) 1330 UTC (7.00 pm IST) onwards "Address to the Nation" on the eve of Independence Day in Hindi and English by Smt.Draupadi Murmu, Hon'ble President of India.

All stations of  Akashvani (All India Radio) will relay this on MW, SW & FM.

Akashvani (All India Radio) will live broadcast the running commentary in English and Hindi on the Flag Hoisting and Prime Minister's address to the nation to be held at Red Fort, New Delhi between 0130-0240 UTC (0700-0810 hrs IST) on 15th August, 2023 on the following SW frequencies.

English:
15050 Bengaluru 500 kW

Hindi:
11560   New Delhi 100 kW
15410 Bangalore 500 kW

The Regional SW Stations will start using their day time frequencies about 1 hour or more earlier than usual on 15th August as follows to relay the commentary. This may provide enhanced reception of stations than on normal days.

Other frequencies operating as usual at that time but carrying the commentary is as follows :

AIR Special broadcasts for Ramadan

Like every year, the special transmissions for Ramadan has started from AIR stations in Jammu and Kashmir as follows:

Timings (variable) : 2145/2205 to 2305 UTC (0335-0435 IST)

Frequencies :
1116 kHz 300 kW  Srinagar
1350 kHz 20 kW Kupwara
4950 kHz 50 kW Srinagar
103.5 MHz 10 kW Srinagar

This  transmission is for about 1 hour and sign on and sign off timings vary.   These special programs will continue for a month, till Ramzan day ie around 23 May 2020. The 1 hour program consists of prayers, songs and advertisments. In the previous years sign on timings varied as the days went on.

Special broadcasts by AIR for Republic Day 2019

India is celebrating its 70th Republic Day on 26 Jan 2019 (Saturday). All India Radio will broadcast special programs in connection with the Republic Day celebrations as follows:

25th January 2019 (Friday) : Eve of Republic Day

1330 UTC (1900 IST) onwards Hon'ble President's address to the nation in Hindi &  English. This will be broadcast by all stations of AIR on MW, SW, FM. Shortly after this broadcast, the local stations will broadcast its translations in local languages.

Watch out for extended schedule (past 1740 UTC) by AIR Hyderabad 4800 kHz carrying live broadcast in regional language "Telegu" on the ocassion of religious festival "Shivaratri" on 24th Feb, 2017 (Friday).

India became an independent nation on 15 August 1947.
August 15 is a National holiday and on that day Flag Hoisting, Parades and other functions are held all over India. The main event takes place in New Delhi where the Prime Minster hoists the
National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts.
