AKM Shamim Chowdhury is the new Director General of Bangladesh Betar

AKM Shamim Chowdhury is the new Director General of Bangladesh Betar, as per an official notification of Govt.of Bangladesh. Earlier he served as the director general the of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), the Principal Information Officer (PIO) and the Director General of the Department of Film and Publication.

Bangladesh Betar Summer Programme Schedule wef 1st April 2010

Bangladesh Betar has rescheduled its summer programme as schedule mentioned below:

- The morning programme will start from 06-30 am and will continue up to 10-30 am instead of closing down at 10-00 am from the regional stations Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Rangpur. Both AM and FM transmission will follow the new schedule.

- For Dhaka station afternoon transmission will start from 02-00 pm instead of 02-30 pm.

- Midnight transmission of Dhaka Kha will be broadcast from 630 KHz AM Band and 100 MHz FM Band from 12-00 midnight to 03-00am. Besides this, world music programme transmitting from 100 MHz FM Band at 03-05 pm daily, will be re-broadcast from the same band from 11-05 pm to 12-00 pm .

Deutsche Welle and Bangladesh Betar sign Comprehensive Partnership Agreement

Representatives of Bangladesh Betar (BB) and Deutsche Welle (DW) have signed a newpartnership agreement on 9 March 2010 in Dhaka that will allow DW to broadcast Bengali Radio Programs two times daily from Bangladesh. The agreement was signed by Bangladesh Betar Director General, Mr. Md. Mahbubul Alam, and Managing Director of DW-AKADEMIE, Ms. Gerda Meuer, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Holger Michael, the Minister of Information, Mr. Abdul Kalam Azad,MP, and the Ministry’s Secretary, Dr. Kamal Abdul Nasser Chowdhury. According to this agreement, BB will air DW Bengali Radio Service between 8:00 am and 8:30 am as well as 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm using six transmitters in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet,Khulna, Rajshahi and Rangpur. Deutsche Welle will set up satellite equipment inthese locations to make reception and rebroadcasting possible.This agreement marks just another milestone in the excellent German Bangladesh bilateral relations and will help Germany’s international broadcaster to expand its Bengali radio services in Bangladesh via FM. Radio in Bangladesh is a very important form ofmedia, reaching a large percentage of Bangladesh citizens on a daily basis. In addition, the two partners agreed to extend their successful training program for journalists with DW-AKADEMIE, continuing their journalist exchange program that was established in 1975.“We are excited to continue our partnership with BB,” says Gerda Meuer, Managing Director DW-Akademie at Deutsche Welle. “We have worked together in many areas for more than 30 years and are sure that this new agreement will be beneficial to both parties.”

Bangladesh Betar celebrates 70th anniversary

Bangladesh betar, the largest electronic medium of the country started its journey on the 16th December 1939. As a public service broadcasting organization, it has been playing a leading role in the nation building process over the decades. Since its inception, promotion of national culture and heritage has been prioritized in the activities of Bangladesh Betar in home and abroad. Being the oldest electronic medium of the country, Bangladesh Betar has proved its effectiveness by promoting and preserving the rich diversified regional and national cultures through its programmes.Bangladesh inherits a rich vibrant culture.

Bangladesh Betar broadcasts news and programmes in corporating various ethnic groups of the country aimed at upholding their history, tradition and cultural identities and inspire them in patriotism. It has been playing an important role in improving the socio-economic condition of the masses and upholding the arts and culture of the country.Bangladesh Betar has the unique distinction of having been associated with the liberation of the country from Pakistan occupation army while it put on air the historical proclamation of the Independence of Bangladesh on March 26, 1971. For its great contribution to the nation the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh conferred the most prestigious national prize the independence Award 2006 to Bangladesh Betar. It also gained Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Award (CBA) in 2006 and Asia Pacific Broadcasting (ABU) prizes for several times.

Bangladesh Betar broadcasts progammes of over 251 hours daily through its 12 regional stations and 6 units. In order to project the country's image abroad Bangladesh Betar is trying to attract its listeners in foreign countries. The Extemal Services of Bangladesh Betar has now been broadcasting English, Bangla Urdu, Hindi, Nepali and Arabic services and the duration of broadcast is 5 hours and 30 minutes a day depicting cultural heritage of thecountry.

Bangladesh Betar is going to celebrate its 70th founding anniversary on 16th December 2009. In this regard different programmes have been taken up to celebrate the event. One documentary programme has already been on air titled "Betar Katha" on every Friday at 4.05 pm in the national hook-up. The drama section has been broadcasting a special programme on evolution & transformation of Dhaka Betar Theater entitled "Sottor Bochor Bibortoner Dharai Dhaka Betar Natok". It is being aired every Monday at 1030 pm from Bangladesh Betar, Dhaka in Medium wave 1000 KW of operating frequency 693 KHz. Moreover 12 stations and 6 units of Bangladesh Betar have chalked out special programme planning of or broadcasting different types of programmes bsased on the past glorious history of Bangladesh Betar.
