Ghana Broadcasting Corporation marks 80th anniversary

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) on Friday celebrated its 80th anniversary, taking its listeners and its website visitors through the evolution of the station.On Friday, various programmes were done including one in Hausa language, where the National Chief Imam, Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, offered Muslim prayers for the GBC.

The Director General of GBC, Major (Retired) Albert Don Chebe, praised past directors and staff for bringing the station this far and pledged that the current generation of broadcasters would work hard to improve on set standards.

GBC is the first radio station to be established in Ghana in 1953 by Sir Arnold Hudson, then Governor of the Gold Coast which is known today as Ghana.
He was assisted by F. A. W. Byron, a British Radio Engineer, and transmission was through a rediffusion box.

Berfi Afari Apenteng is new Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corp.

The National Media Commission (NMC) has appointed Mr. Berfi Afari Apenteng as the New Director - General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). According to a statement issued by Mr. Alexander Bannerman, Deputy Executive Secretary of the NMC, Mr. Berfi Afari Apenteng's appointment would take effect from Tuesday, November 1, 2011 and will last for one year.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is poised to shift to a higher pedestal, by offering quality and improved services, by way of quality programming and advanced technology.The acting Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of GBC, George Adu Boampong, gave the assurance after a regional float through the principal streets of Sunyani, as part of activities marking the 75th Anniversary of GBC.

GBC Boss Under Siege

There is every indication that the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is being frustrated out of the state broadcaster by a carefully knit agenda by the Board of Directors and some of his subordinates.Mr. William Ampem Darko, who returned from leave on Monday, 2nd November, was sent again on a long leave yesterday, Tuesday 3rd November 2009, by the Board, to resume duty on Monday 9th November 2010, contrary to corporate procedure.
