Ukrainian Radio - 100th anniversary

Prime Minister congratulates employees of Ukrainian Radio on its 100th anniversary

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took part in official events in Kyiv dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian Radio.

"Today, Ukrainian Radio is a great information force. It has the largest network, non-stop operation, trust of Ukrainians, and positive dynamics of listener coverage. Ukrainian radio has a glorious past and will have an equally worthy future," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Head of Government noted that Ukrainian radio played a key role in crucial epochs. During the World War II, it called for the fight against the occupiers. And in 1991, the listeners of Ukrainian Radio were the first to hear how independence was proclaimed in the Verkhovna Rada.

"Ukrainian Radio" was first heard on November 16, 1924 in Kharkiv. And it works continuously until now. Until 2017, "Ukrainian Radio" was a state broadcaster, since 2017 it has been part of the public broadcaster — the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine ("Public Broadcasting"). "Ukrainian Radio" is best known for the fact that since 2000 it has been conducting a unity campaign — the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictator of National Unity.

Ukrainian radio is 100 years old — Ukrposhta issues a stamp

"Ukrposhta" declares the release of a new postage stamp to mark the centenary of the beginning of broadcasting of "Ukrainian Radio" — one of the most popular talk radio stations in the country.
The issue was called "New Century of Ukrainian Radio", and the design was developed by Volodymyr Taran. The circulation is 280 000 postage stamps.

Stamp Description:

On November 16, 1924 Radio Ukraine made its first broadcast in Kharkiv. This year, the most popular talk radio in Ukraine with the largest FM network begins a new century and acquires a special status. All this time, Radio Ukraine has been promoting Ukrainian language, song and culture and helping to keep them in popular use.

Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of russia, the broadcaster has also become a reliable and sometimes the only source of trustworthy information and has been helping Ukrainians through the dark times.

During the years of the war, the Radio has increased its audience, as it has become very important during blackout hours (the receiver works even in the absence of electricity), essential in the regions and territories where there is no other broadcasting and one of the safest means of receiving information in the occupied territories, as it leaves no traces of its use.

Today, Radio Ukraine is the radio of every Ukrainian who lives in the homeland and of those who are abroad.

The postage set includes a sheet "The new century of Ukrainian Radio" and сover "First Day".

Specification:

Design — Volodymyra Tarana
Issue date — 15.11.2024
The number of stamps in the sheet — 4
Face value of each postage stamp — M
