Under the GYAN VANI initiative catalyzed by Ministry of Human Resources Development, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (Prasar Bharati) and IGNOU, have established 26 FM radio stations and another 11 stations across the country are coming up under the Phase-I. These 37 stations, with a reach of 60-70 kms radially, are dedicated FM stations for education and broadcast programmes of interest to students. Some of these are located in places such as Jabalpur, Raipur, Guwahati, Shillong, etc. which have significant remote areas with tribal population in their reach. The broadcasts of these FM stations usually reach the villages and areas surrounding the main town, in which they are located. Accordingly, some of the broadcasts of Gyan Vani stations are tailored to cater to the needs of this population in the remote areas. This information was given by Dr. S.Jagathrakshakan Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
