LU to get its own community radio centre

For example, unlikeother broadcasting agencies, we will focus on programmes like nurturingnewborns, mother and child nutrition, water purification, safe waterstorage, recognising dehydration, etc," said Prof Ramesh Chandra Tripathi,head of the Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) department.The upcoming radio centre will function under the varsity's JMC department.Regular information on competitive examinations, submission of admissionforms, job vacancies will be the other important highlights of the radiocentre.According to varsity officials, LU has already received the nod from theHuman Resource and Development Ministry in this connection.A proposal to set up its own community radio centre was sent by LU to theHRD ministry in May 2007."Our proposal is in the last stages of clearance. We are only waiting forconfirmation from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry," said Tripathi.He added, "If all goes well, we will start our community radio in the nextacademic session."The broadcast range of the community radio will initially be restricted to aradius of 10 km.Students of the varsity have already started making documentaries."The documentaries intend to spread the level of awareness among the commonpeople," said a faculty member, who is assisting the students in preparingprogrammes.To have an impact and attract audience, we are using local dialects andsongs based on tunes of popular Hindi movies, he added.http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/LU-to-get-its-own-community-radio-centre/261382/
