Community radio gets Rs 50 mn for 2012-13

NEW DELHI: A Planned Scheme of "Supporting Community Movement in India" has been conceived to provide grants to Community Radio Stations in the range of Rs 100,000 to Rs 1.5 million depending on the purpose for which the grant is sought.

Radio-in-a-Box powers Bangladeshi community radio

A new community radio station, named Lokobetar, in Barguna in southwest Bangladesh, has started test transmission using the ABU's Radio-in-a-Box. It is expected to start full transmission by mid-June. The ABU has supplied two Radio-in-a-Box (RiB) units to UNESCO-Dhaka for community radio stations in Bangladesh.

Gambia: Authorities Close Down Another Radio Station

Gambian authorities on January 13, 2011 ordered the closure of Taranga FM, a privately-owned

community radio station in a suburb of Serrenkunda, Gambia's largest city.
