New laws to govern radio channels in Sri Lanka

Nov 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka government plans to introduce new regulations to govern the radio channels of the country, Ministry of Information and Media sources said. A gazette notice is to be issued in this regard in the near future and the current Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Act will be amended by it, sources say. Sri Lanka issued a similar gazette notice on October 10 introducing new regulations to govern the TV channels amending the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Act. The new regulations came under a scathing attack from the opposition political parties and the media organizations. Some of them have vowed to challenge the regulations in the courts.
